Susan Campbell and Katie Hendricks Discuss the Challenges of Getting Older
And How to Enjoy the Slide
I was recently interviewed on the popular Be, Play, Love podcast hosted by Katie Hendricks and Sophie Chiche. You can listen to the 46-minute conversation here:
Here is a partial description of the topics we address: If there’s anything our culture likes to collectively ignore, resist and hide, it's aging. And yet, aging happens to every single one of us — whether it’s aging parents, aging partners or aging selves, we all have an experience with it.
With age comes the opportunity for nourishment and deeper learning, but aging also comes with some unpleasant experiences and emotions.
Cognitive and physical decline and other losses are all parts of the process of getting older. How do we learn to treat these things as a learning adventure? How do we deal with loved ones becoming shadows of their former selves? How do we talk to an elderly parent about giving up their driver’s license? How do we develop the patience needed for coping with the fact that we or our loved ones are repeating themselves or slowing down?
I think almost everyone will find something they can relate to in this conversation.
